How to deal with BS fishers??

Hi all,

I read over and over again about people punishing BS fishers, but I'll be honest, I'm yet to come up with any tactic to deal with these pesky little critters...

Is there a particularly useful weapon, moveset or technique that I should be using??

If it helps, my current PvP build is based around the Great Scythe (with Great Magic Weapon buff)....

That's a more advanced technique. the simpler version is simply to turn as they turn for a bit then reverse directions so that you are going counter direction to them. you should end up directly behind their back so its a payback BS. it only works if they are fishing so its hardly unfair too

the falchion's 2hr1 has a lot of tracking to YOUR left, and can punish if they're strafing that way. The Gscythe's 1hr2 does the same on the other side.You could try wildly swinging the Mura around you'd probably catch a fisher and a few dead angles while you were at it.

Best thing is just learn to evade and perform attacks that don't leave you
vulnerable, also kicks work very well.

BS fishers are generally not aggressive. They wait for the best time to strike. Making it super easy to pull a fast pivot BS on them.

70% of players can be beat with just backstab fishing. The other portion, you have to throw some bait out. Nobody wins 100%, but the W/L ratio for backstab fishermen is pretty solid regardless.

The best way to counter a BS fisher is to have a wide variety of tools. I have a hard time dealing with the new spells, like Pursuers + Dark Bead Combo. You still have to know how to use them. If you use pursuers when I'm too close, I'm just gonna backstab you. Gotta mix it up.

Don't use weapon attacks with an incredibly narrow hit box, like a lot of 2h R1 attacks that have a overhead swipe.

Also try to guess how much poise they got, if you see the wolf ring poise aura, you know they got at least 40, get familiar with poise breakpoints, and recognize if you got enough to break their poise or not with a swing, if not, and you get sloppy they can poise BS you, meaning walk right through your swing and nail you with a backstab. I do that to people all the time that use weapons like Katanas and BSS. Any good backstab fisher worth anything uses at the very minimum a 53 poise setup.

Also don't be mid rolling in PVP, that is fine for PVE, but mid rollers are easier to backstab than fast rollers, and I'm fast rolling with all my builds.

That's why you unlock swing BS fishers so you can do a follow swing to the side they move to to cancel the BS damage.

I'm on PC. I did play on PS3 till it went YLOD. I don't claim to win them all, I just claim most players fall victim to my tactics.

I also like waiting for invasions in Kiln, and sit over at the bridges with a Gough's Greatbow .

and you can say that about alot of styles of play. falchion + SLB will throw most players into a complete panic.

Fight unlocked and turn around as they're trying to circle you. Use big, sweeping swings too, your Great Scythe is a perfect weapon for that.

May as well use the Balder Side Sword. Its the best straight sword in the game, and its superior to the curved swords in every way. The R2 attacks got a quick enough stab poke where you can actually hit people with it. Its fast enough to punish whiffs, interrupt swings (if they got 0, or low poise) as well as catch people at the end of rolls.

If I wasn't such a filthy backstab fisherman, I'd use a weapon like the BSS for sword play.

i still prefer the Katana's to the BSS, but the weapon is amazing. the 1 handed R2 of the BSS is very easy to parry, you don't need to predict it like you do with most swings, as soon as you see the guy lean back at the start of animation hit the parry and you got him. However it is harder to pull off then it sounds because a good BSS user wont do the R2 attack if you are in close parry range.

I run BSS/Falchion and I have to tell you that the falchion has some superior points. if you belive otherwise I must request that you try it more

Falchion has a better running attack, and better r1's in my opinion. I actually prefer the PGS for its bleed, and playing the BSS is just less fun for me than curved swordplay. Poke, poke, poke, maybe take a swing or two, poke poke poke. Like Glute, I like katanas better too. Better r1's, bleed, and the uchi and WP get nice pokes too.

Its Demon's Souls, but the very same thing works in this game(its a little easier to do in DkS actually), and this is the video that inspired me to adopt backstab fisherman tactics. When I first saw that video, I LOL'd. .

The fact of the matter is most players in Dark Souls are as bad as the players who got owned in that video. Typical turtle noobs, and R1 mashers, getting owned by the infamous backstab fisherman StillChaos.

Here is one of my backstab fisherman builds.

Troll with a bow, bait an attack, you can swap/parry or go for a backstab. I frequently change the setup, sometimes I run with a 31 poise threshold and swap out the wolf ring for hornets.

BS fishing is gonna increase once the DLC reaches consoles because of a certain weapons unique crit damage.

Then once everyone figures out how much the BS is getting nerfed hopefully people will stop abusing it.
