They still deal 100% magical damage, the physical damage reduction won't do anything. They just break poise easier and deal more damage to stamina when blocked.
I think it's just one more translation issue, they are heavy, but not physical in their damage output.
Same for the Black pyromancy.. 100% fire damage.

yeah its really misleading but after blicking some npcs dark orbs i figured there was something fishy about the physical dmg part...

Yeah, they do magic damage. Weird that the crest shield doesn't work against pursuers though, since it will just explode and deal the full extent of its damage capacity anyway.
