The second gate of New Londo... Burial and Flooding? Empty The second gate of New Londo... Burial and Flooding?

    Post by Ghadis_God Tue Aug 21, 2012 8:04 pm

Now, I ran through the Valley of the Drakes for the RtsR today, and after killing the Drakes I decided to do a quick run through lower Londo to invade a couple of people and see if I could get a slab off of a random DW. After successfully testing out my shiny new LHS on an unsuspecting host, I went back through the valley... and noticed another arch. The exact shape and size as the New Londo gate, but on the other side of the valley, seemingly leading straight into the mountain, and blocked by a sizeable mound of rubble.

Closer inspection revealed that it had the same hinges as the New Londo gate; in other words, it had the same type of door that served as a floodgate to New Londo. So where did it lead? Behind the other gate was the entrance to an entire city, there's no doubt that something equally large stood behind this broken gate. So did New Londo have a sister city, that had to buried as New Londo was flooded? Or was this gate part of the elaborate entrance to new Londo, a tunnel that led to the rest of the world outside Lordran and allowed for trade and traffic with New londo? It seems to go right underneath Darkroot if my reckoning is correct, whihc it may well not be.

Also, the gates would have opened outward, toward the valley and New Londo. That doesn't make sense for an entrance to a city defense-wise, you would want outward opening gates you can't push inward, like New londo's main gates. But it does make sense for a new city that had to be defended in a like manner to New Londo.

HAHA! Another person who shares my insane theories that people hate to argue! Take that Doughguy!

Now that that's out of the way, if you pay special attention when going up the lift and out the tunnel and such, the gate would lead into the Forest.

Specifically (assuming no curves), it would lead to roughly the area of the Hydra Lake.

Ugh, I think I posted my original thoughts in the Oolacile thread. I'll try to find it.

    Here: https://soulswiki.forumotion.com/t3398p180-the-darkroot-woods

I see that I had originally posted that theory (about halfway down the page) in a different thread, but I don't think anything came of that post.

    ^^^Awesome finds there.

Makes a lot of sense that the Abyss portal for the DLC is in the lake as well. Maybe they thought they could flood the Abyss chasms in Oolacile after burning it...And obviously it didn't completely work.

Yeah i think the gate goes to the forest. makes sense to have another route to the bridge as the rest of the valley of the drakes isn't easy to access. i wish i knew more about new new londo. How it sell to the abyss, what its "robust culture" was and about its unique healing sorceries.

I feel as if that was the entrance to Oolacile. If it runs under the darkroot areas it gives reason to think so. I believe darkroot basin was Oolacile or at least where Oolacile was before.

It just makes sooo much sense to me. After seeing some pics of Oolacile township it makes complete sense.
