Firelink Altar & The abyss (possible spoilers) Empty Firelink Altar & The abyss (possible spoilers)

    Post by Intro_To_Madness Sat Sep 01, 2012 6:36 pm

After reading the topic "the great search" several times, as well as through my own investigation, I've come up with the theory that Firelink Altar is inside the abyss.

My original reason for this was a simple look at the layout of the areas, specifically New Londo Ruins being directly below Firelink, meaning that if the hole Faampt comes out of was a normal pit, you would fall into new londo, rather then end up in the altar. Also, both Fraampt and Kaathe can take you to the altar, even though they appear in different locations.

I know from reading about the dlc that there is more to the abyss then just a black void ( to avoid spoilers I'll leave it at that), this adds to the theory that the altar is in the abyss.

Now for those unfamilar with the topic "the great search" its about trying to get the cups on the opposite side of the lordvessel to light, possibly opening the door-like wall behind them. Based on that, I've come to believe that on the other side of the door is the abyss, either a section of it or possibly the "heart" of it. Reasoning for that would be on the opposite side is the kiln, which is connected to the "link the fire" ending, so it would make sense if the other side is connected to the "dark lord" ending. (the fact you walk towards it in the dark lord ending backs that up.)

So my theory on this is, like with some of the creatures in the artbook that don't appear in the game, but do in the dlc (marvilous Chester being one) that perhaps the secret to opening the door and lighting the cups won't be in the game until the dlc comes out ( or someone playing PTDE finds it).

Any feed back good or bad on this subject is welcomed and greatly appreciated, since I've become kind of obsessed with figuring this mystery out. (also, if this has already been thought of/discussed somewhere else I apologize and could someone direct me to that topic).

There's nothing behind the doors. At least, nothing important. From never planned on having any DLC, so they would have had it in there unless they had to cut it.

As for the altar, it seems quite possible that the ALTAR might be, however the Kiln in itself is not.

Hmm, well that's rather disapointing, but that would explain the great search topic becoming dead. Seems like such a tease putting them in the game though.

About the kiln, yeah I realize it's not in the abyss, that plain white void with the dark knight "ghosts" in it seems to act like a dividing line between the two. Plus it would be weird if the place trying to extend the age of fire was inside the one trying to end it. So where is the kiln anyway? You can see the sun in it but i don't believe it's visable anywhere in the game outside the altar.

The sun is visible just about everywhere that's outside. Whether or not the sun is an illusion like it is outside Anor Londo is a vald question that nobody has reached a consensus on yet, however.

Oh sorry didn't clearly specify, I meant the kiln isn't visable from anywhere in the game, not the sun.

My best guess is that the kiln is on top of the mountain. "Mount Olympus", and all that. Besides, it fits in with my theory that "THE flame" is the sun big grin

Yeah I'd have to say the theory the flame is the sun makes alot of sense, with the next age being the age of darkness it would seem logical. The age of darkness also being called the age of humans would back up that theory since the lords made the flame (except the pygmy probably) so the age of humans wouldn't have something that important from the previous age around.

I'm not even going to argue this, since you're new and I defend my ground rather seriously on lore topics. Let me just say, I don't agree that the Age of Darkness would in any way be "good" for men, although I thank you for agreeing with the logic of my "flame = sun" theory happy

Actually, a spoiler in the DLC would prove you very, VERY wrong about that.

That dlc better be realeased soon, it's really messing up my arguments knowing about it but being unable to talk about it. 😢

Anyway back onto the main point of the topic, I checked around the altar again and found a couple of interesting things, 1) the stairs leading to the cups and door/wall lead to dead ends. (checked using cast light and a bow)
    2) Even if you do a jump that should make you land on the other side where the stairs are its as if you hit an invisable wall and fall down right against it,
adding to the whole "it does nothing" thing mentioned above.

Hey, its entirely possible for lore to conflict with other lore. I'm making due with what I have, and it sounds as if this DLC goes through and adds more lore than the entire rest of the game.

You can actually see the rays of sunlight all striking the earth in the same direction...not as rays of sunlight, hitting the earth at different angles, would. My one friend theorized the streaks you see are actually collections of cinder drifting down to the Earth.

Posted a thread with my theory about the cups as well, i think it's either left over game material or a idea that's been scrapped.
Or you can actually light the cups, only way to find out about that is, how do we reach the cups and how do we get to light/fill them ?
My theory is if you can actually reach the cups, you need to fill the cups with the (9)boss souls you can make weapons out of and the bigger one on top with humanity.
It adds up but doesn't make sense now, because the dlc adds more boss souls.
Just wondering what people think about this theory.
