Defending against TWoP Empty Defending against TWoP

    Post by IV_Mark_VI Tue Sep 11, 2012 11:04 am

    Hey everyone,

Curious as to how people defend against TWoP. Run for it? WoG/Force? Shield with extreme stamina?

I currnetly run a build I did not want any magic; just strength of arms. So when one of these goes off, I try to put my back to a wall and either quick select to a heavy shield or quick select a huge weapon to stunlock hopefully.

    What do other poeple do?

I either BS them while they cast it, run away or Just turtle it out and parry them if they spam r1.

It's mainly for this reason that I keep fire tempest attuned. It keeps them away and gives me time for twop to wear off. Also chaos fireballs!

I used to run but it feels so lame lol!

There first intent is the BS so they will circle...circle with them and be very careful to watch for them to switch directions....if this fails they will get desperate and start spamming R1 that's what I'm waiting for to parry them out silly

Beyond that trying to BS them while they cast works great!

    Fire Tempest!

.....and if you don't have it attuned, then unlock and dead angle.

If you don't have either fire tempest or a good dead angling weapon then rebuild. silly

If it's one person? They will either run up and spam r1, in which case you can either turtle them with a powerful shield, if you have one, or parry, as most of them will be really predictable with just running up and swinging away. Many will also try to bs you. In that case, lock off. If using a fast weapon, cancel it out like a normal bs; turn with your opponent and swing like mad while two-handing. Even if they're using heavy poise you might be able to stunlock them as they circle you, worst case scenario their failed backstab will result in an r1 hitting you. Hopefully you have the poise to deal with that. A lot of the time, though, they will just ignore your hits, which is great news for a curved sword or katana user who will rack up a deadly combo with possible bleed while they try to bs you. If using a heavy weapon, use the widest swing and heaviest attack you have and try to interrupt their bs locked off. Then just keep swinging.

If you're a miracle user, this is a great time to use WotG, pyros can use GC or GFB to great effect. TwoP only lasts 10 seconds so most people rush in disregarding their own safety and are extremely vulnerable to magic.

You're in big trouble if they are a miracle/sorcery/pyro user and you get caught in it though.

    Force/Wotg/GC.

    Kicking is also very effective.

Stunlocking is pretty good with a dead angle weapon.

If you have a fast weapon, go for BS cancels.

I'd say force is the best option, if they are a sorcerer or caster.

So if they cast TWoP, and then you cast Vow Of Silence, does it cancel the already in effect TWoP?

    Don't think so.

I cast (combustion, fire tempest, wog) use jumping attacks or r2s with running animations like the greatscythe 2hr2, and piviot as I swing with my dead angle capable weapons like the dgm.

No, if TWoP is already up, it will not get cancelled by VOS. But VOS will prevent any following WOG/GC spam, as well as a subsequent TWoP cast (since VOS lasts a good 30 seconds or longer). Given the similarities in casting VOS is also often mistaken for TWoP in its own right, meaning the original TWoP caster may hesitate a moment or two before committing (a big deal since TWoP only lasts like 10 seconds), or may even back off thinking yours will wear off around the same time theirs does.

At worst you're left with basic melee wrangling, and at best your foe sprints into your VOS and then stands there waving a catalyst or talisman like an idiot while you stab them to death.

Casting pursuers puts them on the defensive. I quit using TWOP in PVP entirely, its just not that effective any more. I get it used on me occasionally, and don't really care.
