Is there a formula for working out whether your toon would benefit more from increased defence or increased HP?

For example, I could choose between 15 extra points in VIT, taking it up to 65, or leave the VIT at 50 and put the points in stamina and wear armour with better defences. How do i know which is better for a build?

Very good point there. The End stat also suffers diminishing returns in equipload increase, but I would increase it either way instead for HP (because of poise).

I dont' think there's a clear answer for that Wisp, as the defence would depend on how many times you were hit, and with what weapon.

I think what you can do though, is run some scenarios for it. Such as "This is a common weapon/setup, and I can take more hits from it with added defence than VIT".

I think (no actual testing, just a guess) that better armour would be stronger for lighter weapons that hit multiple times rather than more VIT, over the heavying hitting weapons.

What I'm most worries about is BS/riposte damage i think, otherwise I'd probably just go with Wyrm's advice and have more poise. Assuming I've got the poise i feel necessary for the build, which would help me survive a massive crit attack

Depends on your setup. If you're going for fast roll, then each point of end is .25 of gear (assuming no rings). That's not much, but if it's 15 points, that's 3.75 units of gear. If you go for Med roll, that's 7.5 units of gear. Quite a difference.

If you want to survive crits. its HP all the way. armour is good for destroying the damage of light multiple hit weapons like rapiers or unbuffed curved swords.
crits will by and large barely notice your armor

Endurance is the only stat that doesn't have diminishing returns. Stamina is capped at 40 End, but equip load goes up by 1 for every End level. That means End is always worth getting more of. But I agree with you, I would spend the points in End, not Vit. After 50, the returns on Vit get very low. Since End doesn't diminish, it isn't a bad idea to spend your extra points there once you have 50 Vit (see the builds in my sig for examples).

Also, it's always nice to have weight to spare! Sometimes you want to change your armor and weapons on a whim, and you'll appreciate the extra weight more than you would, say, 50 extra HP, give or take.

Oh thanks for that Blaine, I don't know why I thought I was getting less equipload past 40 End.
