I Need pvp advice for a DEX/PYRO BuildI

Post by Razielthemanslayer on Tue Sep 04, 2012 3:09 pm

I'm preparing for the dlc making a SL 120 Pyromancer. and I JUST LOVE IT for now, but Even though I can pull out some good damage with my lightning uchi I still can't handle players with poise or gankers, I like this build as much as my Faith/Strength build.

Please give me some advice to deal with High Poise, Greatswords/axes and gankers :3

Since you dont need any points for Pyro, just a couple in attunement, you can absolutely blow out DEX, END and VIT. You really shouldn't have many problems. Just choose your spells wisely big grin

Change the lightning uchi for a normal or crystal one.

I was actually thinking about doing that when I cap my dexterity, but wouldn't crystal path be kind of a waste because they can't be repaired and farming slabs is so painful? xD.

    Great Fireball
    Great Combustion
    Fire Orb
    Combustion
    Power Within

    - if going with power within, I'd suggest the Silver Knight Spear. Totally rocks. Switch combustion with another Great combustion (requires another playthrough) and I'd swap Fire orb for Fire Tempest. Being able to switch to spells means you can let your stamina recover by throwing spells instead of attacking.

The Darkwraiths drop chunks quite commonly, you don't have to farm for slabs, +4 crystal will do.

    Okay, I'm a dex/pyro main:

Definitely don't do 35 vitality. For a feeble build like this with low poise, and light armor you want at the very least 45(I capped at 49). Your endurance shouldn't need to go past 40, because that's where stamina stops decreasing; again you should be wearing light armor. It shouldn't be too difficult to find light enough armor to fast roll.

The 29 strength is not necessary. If you absolutely need to one-hand the Murakumo, stay at 28. I would personally suggest though that for this build you just cap at 14 or 16 strength, depending on your choice of shield(I did 16, for the Silver Knight Shield). At just 14 strength you have other great powerhouse dex weapon choices such as the Uchigatana and the Great Scythe. Stick with those, unless you absolutely love the Murakumo.

45 dex is good for the casting speed. So lower you strength to 14 or 16. Your attunement is fine where it is, although I went to 23 for the extra slot, and dump ALL other points into vitality. You'll definitely need it.
Weapon wise, drop the lightning. This is a dex-scaling build for a reason, so you should only be using normal weapons. The scaling from these weapons is greater than any elemental path you could take, and will be even better buffed(although I usually don't bother). Trade the uchi in for a nomal one, and with Quelaag's equipped, make sure you have at the very least 10 humanity at all times. Try out the Estoc or other piercing swords. I did, and fell in love. happy

Ring-wise you're doing okay, but I would favor the bellowing dragoncrest ring over the wolf ring, as it adds between 20-26% damage to all pyromancies. This is personal peferance though, as I feel like I'm quick enough to get away and not need the poise(My poise is only enough to resist daggers, so essentially I have none, and that is enough).

While putting together a light enough armor set, consider the Crown of Dusk(part of the Antiquated Set), as it raises pyromancy damage by 20% as well.

As far as spells go you look pretty good. Great combustion is always the better choice over combustion, and never use power within in pvp. Unless you absolutely are going for the quick kill method. That isn't what this should be, so only use that against hack and slash bosses like the four kings. I don't use it at all, as I find it to be a joke of a pyromancy.

Need any more help just ask happy Good luck!

I would reccomend *highly* if you love the Mura make a pure murakumo build seperate from your dex pyro, Using the mura on a dexpyro negates two of the biggest advantages to the build. First the leanness of the build, 45dex 16-23 attunment END to near 40 and then Vit vit vit. 16 strength gets you the SKspear/Skshield 14 gets you Uchi/GreatScythe

You said you're having issues with greatswords greataxes(probably just BKGA it's the only one I see) and gankers. And the answer to these problems is probably "trust"

There are a few Dex weapons that have a good trust attack, Estoc, SKSpear, Baller Swag, Uchi. Their range is good as you can roll cancel the recovery fairly early, it's enough to dance around slower swinging weapons. Remember you have tools for a protracted fight, where a great weapon wants a slugfest, do NOT get into a slugfest with them. Zone with GCFB and flamespray, Poke at them with a long dex weapon, USE A SHORTBOW. plink at them with poison arrows. In order to stop this harassment by you they will Run/Roll/Jumpattck to move at you, they want to be closer. Just keep patient, punish their slow swings and go back to zone/harass. Never get *too* far they might try to heal through some means and you need to be able to punish that with something.

Also +15 weapons, Crystal is a bit much to ask(but they are good, for example the BSS, Falchion, and Greatscythe break 400 or 500 AR with crystal when they wouldn't at +15 with 45 dex, and for somereason getting up over 400AR is a pretty noticable damage boost(perhaps because the way souls calculates AR vs. defences) It's sort of an ar 'breakpoint' but I wouldn't worry about it too much, the Uchi is over 400 at +15 as is the PGS)

Sorry for the minor digression on cyrstal, Actually I have something quite relevant. MartysBrigade (who sometimes posts here) has a lot of PvP vids on you tube, while you'll almost never see him use a Katana he does frequent the SKSpear, I've seen him use the BSS and the Falchion(and even the PGS) He plays fairly patiently and really it's a solid style for dex pyro.

Now I may have just advocated playing safe and whittling opponents down, as that's how I approach things with my dex/pyro. I have had the pleasure(and misfortune) to play against some really agressive Dex builds that don't give any room to breath. Falchions smashing into you, Kick-GC. ect. It works less well on poise tank greatsword users but it absolutely can shut down anyone in lighter armor.

This is essentially what I said lol. And yeah, 16 strength if you want Catacombs to be 10 times easier.

This is my SL125 "Rowdy Burns" pyro build: http://tinyurl.com/d7husk6

Havel's gaunts are just so I can eat two dex weapon hits without staggering. Lots of people running around just two-handing the Chaos Blade and buffed Falchions these days. Anyway, drop the five points where ever and you're golden. This build slams.
