    Faster internet connection?

    This is a big discussion.

To start, know your ISPs upload/download pipe size. Then do a speed test, to see if you're coming near that. Once you know the size of the pipe, figure out how it's being used in your house.

If the guy is teleporting to you on a consistent basis, your download is the issue. Are people using a lot of downloading? Videos/movies/torrents/large files? Do you have a small pipe? Is your NAT type correct?

    Easy things to try:
    1. Do a speed test. www.speedtest.net
    2. Put your Xbox on the DMZ. If you don't know how, look it up...
    3. Try being the only person on the network. If you know people are off doing something at a certain time of day, try then and see if the connection is better. If it is, likely someone is using up a lot of your bandwidth.
    4. If you're wireless, try a wired connection.

Well one thing is his last sentence is so badly worded I can hardly make out what it's supposed to say.

Secondly he is asking how to fix lag. So to that I consider the appropriate Look Skyward the appropriate response.

I'll write a proper reply soon though.

Really? I read it just fine. Must have superior reading skills happy

Asking how to fix lag is a difficult question, but better than then lagging in pvp matches. I hate laggy players glitching around.

You had pretty much already given him any suggestion possible....other than FIXING LAG????

But anyways since you felt the need to down rep me I returned the favour Bow

I didn't down rep you. Thanks for the unhelpful reply and a downrep.

Lag can be fixed in certain situations. What he's talking about is improving connection speed, since it is impossible to negate lag.

Here, I'll give you a +1 rating on the same post to prove I didn't down rep you.

    Edit: done.

    Sorry was getting distracted silly

Well IV_Mark_VI already said most of what you should try up there ^^
But I'll repeat some stuff anyway, cause... well why not big grin

    - Make sure you aren't playing whilst otherwise using your connection. Such as watching videos, downloading, another xbox etc.
    - Play with a wired connection.
    - Make sure your router's NAT is set to the most open setting will help with getting a game but usually will have no effect on the Lag within the game. (Port forwarding if your router won't do it for you)
    - As he said you can try configure your router to put your console on the DMZ, but it's not a great thing to do for the long run.
    - Make sure you have a decent router, some old ones will drastically slow your connection. Make sure it is fully up to date on it's firmware.

It's possible the opponent has bad internet. In this case there is nothing you can do but deal with it. It will be lagging badly for him as well(often in a slightly different way) so it's not that big of deal.
Just move on to the next guy, but if every guy is like that, well then it's because your internet is the bottleneck not them.

If none of the above then it's most likely you have rather slow internet and if you want less lag you will be required to upgrade. But do check you are getting the speed you paid for using the site he mentioned www.speedtest.net

If there is something specific you want help with, such as configuring your router. Just reply and if i'm on i'll try help you out.
Otherwise just google it, or do that first.

Most was already said, so probably not that helpful Shrug

@LordRevan, any update? A sticky on how to fix or help fix lag issues would be helpful to a lot of people. I know it's an in-depth subject, but even some basics to beginners would be nice.

Depending on how the specific router's DMZ works. Most aren't a true DMZ.
But basically because if it's in the DMZ it lacks security.
Also though if it was a proper DMZ, because you enabled the DMZ it could slow down other devices, because the requests have to go through extra firewall rules. But most routers don't do it that way so Shrug

Nah I've seen a bunch of people with really bad upload rates. Their download is fine, so they can see you moving smoothly, but on your screen, they're teleporting around.

Many times it's due to torrents just chewing through their bandwidth, or they're on a wireless connection sharing it with a bunch of other devices (on the xbox anyways).

I might try make a decent thread for fixing problems for Dark Souls (Although it would be aimed at PC, things like this would be included) Considering the stuff I've helped people with so far I probably wouldn't even have to write much.
I'd just need to get all my replies in one place silly

This is true. However the thing most people disregard is that it's bad for them too. As it gives them horrendous input lag in most circumstances since they have such terrible upload.

Maybe. But I'm much more prone to lose a fight to someone with a bad upload rate than one without. They seem to backstab me on a regular basis, where on a normal connection it rarely happens.

Oh just end it will you. Someone got a down-rep so what, now everybody is back to what they were. Yes he has an extra rep now. Well he had a good answer to the OP so he deserves it.

Now everybody stop moaning and either talk relevant to the OP or don't bother.

Hey Revan, if you want a hand with that guide I'd be able to assist.

I'd like to break it into "easy" fixes and "advanced" ones. So that the wealth of information doesn't put people off from trying solutions.

I always take a short break from the game when I lose 3 times in a row due to lag... I even rage deleted my dw because of bad experiences. It didn't hurt me all that much because I hate DW's with a passion, but I really wanted to get on the top 100 guilty at least.

The way I have come to understand the topic though is that the host is the feeder and the invader/phantom runs off of communication from the host, but through a main server. So there is only a certain degree of control you can have over the lag. Just ensure that it isn't you and take some steps if it is to try and fix it. You can google most advanced networking issues these days.
