Invaded by spirit of vengeance

I keep getting invaded by the spirit of vengeance, but don't understand why.

The only NPC I killed was the Ninja in Darkroot Garden that drops the wood grain ring. Afterward I purged the sin, and I've checked that I have no sin.

I have been a dark spirit invader on another character, but not this one. Same account, but that shouldn't matter, right? I should be able to have a good character and an evil one.

So why is the "Spirit of Vengeance" after me?

The only reason I could possibly imagine is if you pulled off a certain annoying glitch and inherited the sin.

Did you betray a covenant? Normally get a sin from that.

Are you in Dark Anor Londo? Then again that doesn't actually tell you when us Dark Moons show up, as we do that through the ring.

As for no sin, you sure your book isn't glitched? A friend of mine has a book that is glitched like that for some reason.

I could take a look in the 1 to 2 sin areas of the book for you, what is your gamertag? You know, if your on the XBOX version.

Edit: If it is really low you could just let a Dark Moon kill you, annoying yes but sin dissipates when you die by one of us. Not completely from what I have seen but a lot of it goes away, meaning it will be gone if you have low sin to begin with..

have you changed covenants without talking to oswald?
have you got an indictment or killed gwyndolin?

Check the book, if you don't have any indictments must be the glitch or something else.

I think I joined Way of the White, and then later joined the Forest covenant by just dropping way of the white. Later I joined Gravelord Serpent to get the spell, and currently I'm in Chaos Servant - which I just joined without dropping Gravelord first. Are you saying I need to drop my old covenant by talking to Oswald every time I want to join a new one or I will get invaded?

Yes, leaving without actually leaving is considered betrayal and gives sin.

Any way to purge the sin? Oswald says I haven't sinned.

If he says that you haven't sinned I think you are indicted then. Check the book and see how many you got. There's no way to erase indictments so you are marked as a sinner for the rest of your life.

Severity of sin = 1

..but it's been that way for my gamer acct ever since I invaded someone on a different character. Are you saying that if you get indicted it affects every character you create on that account forever?

I think you BB glitch then. Sin transfers from the old character to the new character.

I had to look up what BB glitch was. I guarantee I haven't been messing with a bottomless box or using any other kind of cheat. I'm just playing my 7th character, trying a pyromancer this time and constantly getting invaded. I expect the normal dark spirit invasions but I've never seen the spirit of vengeance before. On my previous character I did join the DarkMoon covenant and invaded a couple people *as* the spirit of vengeance.

Then that's pretty fing weird. No idea how you got that indictment, maybe you invaded someone and don't remember. :S

Maybe I don't understand how indictments work, but when I look in the book it just has my gamer tag. All my characters are created under that gamer tag, and all of them show the same indictment. I can't imagine it would work any other way.

What I expected was that I could create a good character and an evil one, and collect indictments on the evil one that wouldn't affect the good one. Does one evil character make all your characters sinners?

No I have toons without sin nor indictments. You said gamertag, maybe it's an xbox thing? I don't know.

Are you sure you haven't invaded anyone and got indicted?
As far as I know every char has its own indictments

Or maybe betraying a covenant grants you an indictment.

Yep, I'm playing on XBox. Just downloaded PC version too and am going to try that.

On XBox though you see your gamertag in the indictment list. No matter what character you are playing, you always have the same gamertag. I just thought it would differentiate between characters, which is probably does but maybe this character account has some kind of glitch.

Yeah on PSN it's the same. The thing is once you have indictment there's no way to erase them.

It doesn't affect all characters, you must have invaded someone a while back. If your on your seventh character it isn't too hard to think you simply forgot.

As for them staying for life, I'm not sure about that. I have on several occasions killed someone's entire sin through killing them as a Darkmoon. I have even seen it in person through one of my friends. He got indicted and I killed him causing him to completely disappear off the list.

this is conflicting but I read earlier in these threads that sin affects all of your accounts. meaning if you can be darkmooned on your first guy, than all new ones you create can as well without being indicted. I will search for it i suppose, but i remember reading it clearly.

As a darkwraith of course i cant confirm it lol, sin is the point of our covenant, well, obtaining humanity rather.

That is sort of how I thought it might work too - you get killed and it decreases your indictment total. That way players who are collecting them have something to lose if they get killed.

But honestly, I've only been playing this character for two days and I know you have to use a cracked red eye orb. No way have I used one. I have been putting my sign down a lot and have killed a few invaders. I think it has to be a glitch of some kind. Maybe if I just let myself get killed it will stop.

I would assume. If your level 100 or near, (doubt it because of the entire two day thing.) I can clear you myself.

If it doesn't work, be sure to post it. To confirm my own results.

Will do - I'll follow up and post what happens. It might take a little while to get results as I've cleared bosses from the places I was getting invaded.
