Help a newbie with his build? [spoilers? I mention new gear]

Post by Crossbreed on Wed Aug 29, 2012 7:40 pm

    Hey everyone,

While not new to the game (Played through Demons Souls and Dark souls on console), I am pretty new to PvP. Aside from the typical invasion I didnt PvP much on the console, but am looking to do much more of that on the PC

I started making a Dex build, but am now thinking of making a hybrid build. The main issue however is my lack of Vitality.

Ive gone through the game on my Thief with 9 vitality because I like the challenging play style. And with minimal armor and vitality, 1 mistake can easily cause my death. And really, can you say your playing Dark Souls if your allowed to make more than 1 mistake? ;P

So my question is, should I put more into health for PvP or is having 550~ health possible if Im careful? I worry they can turtle all day and trade blows to win.

I want to go a ninja flip build (so so glad you need to have 25% to flip now. Flipping full havel set is a large part of the reason I never sought PvP on console) with Abyss Greatsword. I would like to offhand dagger (Dark Silver Tracer?) for pure cool factor, though I would have a shield as a backup. I also have an Asend.+5 Pyro flame. This leaves roughly 17-18 pounds for armor if I use Havels Ring with DWG.

What do you more veterans think of this build? Should I focus equally on Str&Dex for sword, or more on Dex to reduce casting time of Pyromancy? Should I cave and add on to Vit or be a baller and accept that I will die to lucky shots in addition to any mistake I make? Should I go with the dagger offhand, or is that more retarded than the rest of my build?

I plan on going to SL99 statwise

In advance, for any and all who take the time to read this and give advice, thank you very much!

Can we see your complete build, please?

Keep in mind to adjust for DLC weapons and armors. You want to use the Abyss Sword, select a weapon that weighs the same and so forth.

With this layout there is about 4-5 pounds I can use and still be under 25%, but I believe Abyss weighs 1 more pound and I am unsure how DST relates to Prisc dagger. Also, I plan to use Chesters Coat because its too cool not to (wanderers seemed close).

As I said, I plan to go to SL99 so I have a little over 10 points to allocate. Would I benefit from upping Dex, should I put it into Endurance for gear, Should I add a little Vitality, or is this build so strange that it doesnt matter because it sucks anyway? ;3

I'm sure the balanced stats are due to the Abyss Sword's high requirements, correct?

    How about this? http://mugenmonkey.com/darksouls/?c=3080735007160850

Maybe with a little more info I could make it even better.

Yes, I guess I should have listed those stats. Required to wield is 22/18/18/18 and it scales c/c/-/-

Dex is at 30 because Im already at 30 (was originally going pure dex build, but I am bored of the Katana since I used it in the Console as well) I would be willing to start a new character for it, but I work full time and am still completing school, so it will take a while, and Im impatient, haha. Only got as far as I have now because I had four days off work when it came out.

Though, fighting Artorius 1v1 again would be worth starting over, that was a really fun fight. If you really think I should start over to allocate stats properly let me know.

Thank you again for your help!

Don't start over. Everyone's 1st PvP is a mess. It's a practice tool through and through.

play though and have some fun, pick up the basics of pvp then if you cant make this lump of coal into a diamond, start over, but sometimes doing something wrong can lead to some awesome discoveries.
