Does this game get fun again after Anor Londo?

Post by ICEninja on 18/01/12, 06:39 pm

So I've been thoroughly enjoying my first playthrough of this game. Some frustration that the start before I got used to dying all the time, but safe to say after I got to say, the bell tower Gargoyles I started really having fun with this game. Lower undead burg was fun, the depths were fun, Blighttown was great, Sen's Fortress gave me some problems but I enjoyed it...now I'm in Anor Londo. I have yet to experience fun anywhere in this town.

Seriously, this section of the game has COMPLETELY and TOTALLY ruined my experience. This is what I've noticed so far:

You're greeted with painfully long walks, virtually no easy opponents (save the painting guardians), long walks, don't even get me started on those archers (closest I've ever come to throwing my controller in my life). So after about 90 minutes of running to those retarded archers and falling off, I FINALLY pass them, and am greeted with a large number of knights that take forever to kill, and a boss that I simply can't seem to beat.

Seriously, I've watched multiple videos, used multiple weapons (my Quealaag's +4 seems to do the best by far) tried killing them in different orders, but I simply cannot find a way to beat those 2 guys. Out of about 25 tries, I've successfully killed Ornstein 4 times, but never have enough estus flasks to finsh the job. I'm around SL50 so I'm not underleveled or anything either.

So my question is, does this game get fun again after Anor Londo? Like, honestly I don't mind a challenge, such as Sen's Fortress, but this game makes me want to smash my PS3 then grab a pair of brass knuckles and go to town on the nearest orphanage.

    LOL

i love this post, it's hilarious

and no. it gets harder, and more frustrating every second.

but it's still fun while being hard in my opinion, stick it out, definitely worth it Smile

I'd say yes. The areas you open up after you get the lordvessel can be both fun and terrifying. O and S are just really really really annoying, I know exactly what you went through cause I solo'd them by myself at like 70 or 80. Was not freaking easy but I sure as heck feel proud.

If you advanced his storyline you can actually summon Solaire to help in that fight, he made a fair difference in my NG+ with making distractions. I'm sure you can ask around and several people would be more than willing to help you beat them Very Happy

    welcome to DS !!

well o+s is the hardest boss in this game imo, so yes you're supposed to die alot there, its normal. specially if you're trying to solo them. A good reward for your effort is a wonderful armor (ornstein's) and the lordvessel which will save you alot of walking... plus you get to take a look at the princess's mega boobs so you get the battle stress out of the way. So yes it gets fun afterwards

The wireless router is upstairs in my room and the PS3 is across the house downstairs in the family room. I can't really play online until my dad sets up a network extender.

Do you think I should grind on silver knights for a while? Maybe try to kill a couple more titanite demons (I haven't successfully killed one without bow and arrow cheese) so I'm more powerful for the fight with a +5 Quelaag's?

And yes I've heard people say that 4 kings is even harder that S and O, but that S and O is one of the hardest, and the black archers on the roofs is one of the worst segments in the game. I just need to know that while the game may not become easy, it becomes less retarded.

I'd say S&O is hardest lol, simply because compared to what equipment you'll have at the time combined with how hard they are in first place makes them most difficult in my opinion.

you can still summon solaire even if you're playing offline, as long as you're in living form

gear will not help much ...o+s are more about technique and correct positioning

get the sunbro summoned and he will be alot of help for sure, if you dont mind not soloing them

I'd try summoning Solaire to assist. He doesn't require you to be Online, you can summon him offline. Make sure you kill the Royal Sentinals first though. If you're having trouble, hit them with a bow from far enough away, they'll ignore you as you kill them. Solaire is on the middle of the staircase where the Silver Knight is in the hall before O and S. Kill Ornstein first, Smough is easier to deal with afterwards. Use Solaire as a distraction.

It takes only 1 humanity to engage in some JOLLY COOPERATION. Righto. Good luck. After Anor Londo, the game started to reach its peak for me. Enjoy, good sir or madam!

Can Solaire die? What happens if he does? I'm always nervous to take characters in to bosses with me because of that.

My opinion, yes. Quelaag +5 and +10 eagle shield is what made that fight possible for me. If you plan to level and not worried about a type of build, put stats into whatever makes Quelaag do more damage DEX I think?

In terms of 'retarded' I feel that would differ between people. This is completely guesswork but, I feel Tomb of the Giants will give you a hard time and maybe the Crystal Caves. Tombs is just a crummy place overall, the caves are mostly just wacky. Boss wise maybe 4kings but the others are fairly easier I think. Gywn is a different story all together.

For the Solaire thing, they don't die. You just don't get any bonus items if they lived.

You could also finish the catacombs first, then go back to O+S with more estus flasks (I guess you have 10 now?). Just downgrade the Occult Club to Divine, to deal with the skeletons, you have probably found this weapon in Anor Londo already.
I also (as most others) had serious problems with O+S the first time. It didn't matter who I defeated first, or if Solaire helped out. Then I learned not to back away, but rather stay between Super Ornsteins legs, and the fight suddenly became manageable.

edit: Solair is only a phantom in the fight, so it doesn't matter if he dies.

Solaire can die. And if you die... you can always summon him again for another go! Its nice to get help for this fight imo. I even tried helping out others after i finished fighting them during my first run. That was fun!

nothing happens if solaire dies because he's a phantom

but yeah highest upgrades you can give to your gear helps LOTS.

and if you're levelling stats into DEX for extra power with quelaags.

I'm not really concerned about having a min/maxed char for PVP with this guy really, I have every intention of bringing him above level 120 if it suits me. I'll make follow up characters with a more template build after we get the stupid wifi extender.

I figure I'll probably just grind a bit. I haven't powered up my shield at all because it seems like all it does is add attack with it, and I've never attacked with my shield. What exactly is the purpose of upgrading it? Should I do it?
