Issues with spear users

Hey guys, first time poster but I've been lurking a while I've been having some issues PvPing in the Burg against spear users lately as I fear a lot of people have and I've found that the great scythe's strong attacks are really competent at hitting people mid flip and at the end range of their spears. I've no doubt most of you know this but for those who don't, give it a try if you're finding spear users frustrating.

Don't worry about it, almost everyone has trouble with spears, they're super powerful in PvP. All I can say is that you should try to parry or out range them with bow/crossbow or try some spells if you have any. There is also the bs option if nothing else works. Also welcome to the forum! I'm on xbox too and do lots of PvP mainly in the Burg. Maybe I've seen you there?

I've never tried the GreatScythe but you can parry. Spears aren't the easiest weapons to parry but roll r1's are doable, and if they try to hit your shield twice you've got them.

I am assuming you mean the shielded R 1/RB attack of the spear user that makes them difficult?

The first thing I do (you dont have to) is poison them with arrows and poison throwing knives. This reduces their stamina regen which helps me break their guard easier after their green blossom runs out.

If you have poise you can always tank the spears weak attack while u get in a 2 handed RB of the shotel! this will get them off their game plan.

If you manage to land a parry rip, I like to kick them as they raise off the ground, if timed correctly, they stagger back before they can return to turtling, which usually results in stunlocking them or at least gaining an edge.

For my faith builds, WoG is my go to when a guy wont stop turtling against me. He better have Crest shield on, but likely will have Grass Cress on instead.

Just some ideas, I hear your plight, a skilled spear user who is defensive is incredibly hard to deal with.

honestly, try unlocking them, and just run beside their spear stabs with your shield up.
it's the dumbest thing i've ever seen, the spears just don't hit you. it just flies by you as you just step to the side and walk up to them.

you can just walk up to them and kick/r1 them and if they try to roll stab who cares you're unlocked, you can probably counter stab them before they get behind you.
unless theres heavy lag..

i was doing it to some dss user in the burg. i felt bad for him after a while because he started panicking so i stopped, but once you get the general idea of where they hit you can just WALK PAST THE STABS.

Personal favorite for when they start spamming r1, roll into the first hit (your i-frames will ensure no damage) and then IMMEDIATE parry reposte. Do it right and you'll look live you dived straight into a reposte of AWESOMENESS!

I unlock and pivot BS now. And that's ALL I do. Spear users know how easy it is to get wins with the spear/DWGR, and that's why they use it. Fine with me. I just use the one tactic that I know works everytime.

spear users are a pain but they aren't impossible. for the turtles that hide behind the shields just keep your distance and force them out either through poison and toxin or another method. im really fond of using the lifehunt Scythe and just force a bleed using the 2h R2 and rolling away. once bleed hits they're usually more reluctant to hide behind the shield.

for the ones that just hit and run with the spear and DWGR, just try and get used to parrying the roll R1s and just keep sidestepping the pokes to force the roll R1 out.

theres probably better ways but that's what's both worked for me and caused me to die when i was still using those methods with spears.
